Class of the league is clearly the Falcons, if by only a feather over New England. Detroit is surging, and the Bengals are surprising third. Denver takes a significant hit and drops. But there is really little difference between overall strength among teams ranked 3 through 10. The “Denver formula” (i.e. mediocre offence, killer defence) is being emulated by Minnesota still, but generally it is the reverse that is in vogue among the top ranked, with Atlanta, NE, the Bengals, Detroit, and New Orleans all very much pass heavy – mediocre to awful defensive teams. Other counter-intuitive insights are Oakland at 22 and Pittsburgh at 24. And Cleveland is the worst team in the league no more (SF and Jacksonville rate/rank lower).
